Angels in America is a play written by Tony Kushner that chronicles the disintegrating relationships of two couples. The story is set in America in the 1980s against a background of gluttony, conservatism, politics, and controversial sexuality. It is this backdrop that provides  Angels in America  with its enormity and sets it apart from other love stories. In this play, the plot is largely driven by its themes, which are viewed from different characters' perspectives as the story unfolds. Throughout the play, Kushner introduces to readers, many weighty issues. Some of these issues include: homosexuality, religion, stereotypes, race/ethnicity, denial, betrayal, and identity; each character in the play questions and grapples with at least one of these subjects. As a reader, it was particularly interesting to watch the characters struggle with the issue of stereotypes. Living in New York City during the 21st century, the gay community has had and continues to be a prominent part of society. The gay people that I have crossed paths with do not seem to be shy or ashamed of their sexual orientation. They do not hide who they are attracted to and they do not view their orientation as a sign of weakness. Due to my exposure to this, it was baffling to witness Roy’s reaction upon hearing from his doctor that he has contracted AIDS. Roy states, â€Å"Now to someone who does not understand this, homosexual is what I am because I have sex with men. But really this is wrong. Homosexuals are not men who sleep with other men. Homosexuals are men who in fifteen years of trying cannot get a pissant antidiscrimination bill through City Council. Homosexuals are men who know nobody and who nobody know. Who have zero clout. Does this sound like me, Henry? † (Kushner, 51). Although Roy may desire another man, to him desire is irrelevant. Roy only identifies with other powerful people and in his eyes, gays are powerless. Roy believes his money and status protect him from the oppression gay men face. Roy is even convinced that he can use his money to buy immunity from AIDS. Another issue that is raised by Kushner is sanity. In the play there is a character named Harper who is addicted to Valium. Throughout the play, Harper struggles and questions what sanity is. Her vivid imagination causes her to travel between reality and fantasy quite often. At one point, towards the end of Part One, Harper â€Å"travels† to Antarctica in a dream. She believes that she has found her utopia and now she can finally live in peace. Harper’s imaginary friend, Mr. Lies joins her n her journey and explains, â€Å"This is a retreat, a vacuum, its virtue is that it lacks everything; deep-freeze for feelings. You can be numb and safe here, that’s what you came for. Respect the delicate ecology of your delusions† (Kushner, 108). Harper wants to remain in her created delusion forever; her manifested utopia is a result of her inability to face reality. Because Harper is too scared to leave the confines of her home, she has created a world inside her ow n mind so that she can live there and remain in paradise forever.

The essay shows how tragic bullying can be on kids, and how it has lead to suicide and even accidental murder. I think that bullying can lead to such tragedies, but at the same time, bullying is just a part of life. I feel that bullying toughens up kids, and gets them ready to deal with people in the real world, and if they cannot handle the bullying, I feel they won’t make it in the real world.You have to ignore kids giving you a hard time, and know you won’t be around them for the rest of your life. 2The essay shows the influences bullying has on kids by telling stories of tragic stories that have led to young kids committing suicide or even being murdered. â€Å"Death was the only relief he could imagine† William Head said after his son committed suicide because he was bullied. This should definitely r aise bully-awareness. No kid should ever feel so poorly about themselves that they feel the only way out is taking their own life.Someone should step in the way if the bullying is going that far. 3But, for the most part, bullying is a part of life. I was bullied in school, my roommate was bullied, my little brother was bullied, and my older cousin was bullied. At one time or another, every kid gets bullied. Being bullied, unfortunately, a normal part of growing up, but you need to experience it, and learn how to react to it.Bullying really is character building. 4Kids need to learn how to handle bullying so that they can deal with people in the real world. People push you around just as much in the real world as they do in school. â€Å"It’s your problem—you need to learn how to deal with it yourself† The supervisor of the school said on the issue. I agree with the quote completely. You need to learn how to deal with your problems, not have someone else take care of it. Mommy and daddy won’t be there at work, they won’t be there at college.Learning how to stick up for yourself is a huge life lesson. 5In the essay â€Å"Words that Wound† by Kathleen Vail, the author showed how bullying can effect kids in a negative way. It showed how bullying leads to kids committing suicide or even dying. It did not really touch on what bullying teaches kids. With dealing with bullies, kids also learn to stick up for themselves. Which in the end I feel is a much better experience to have in the long run.

To three tubes in each pH 3ml of the pH solution was added and 2ml of banana extract (substrate). To two tubes 1ml of the enzyme (potato extract) was added while the third tube the enzyme was not added and acted as the control. The test tubes were then shaken and put in the appropriate temperature and the optical density measured after three minutes. The reaction rate was the highest at all temperatures at pH 7. At room temperature the reaction rate was the highest in the tube without the enzyme. pH 4 and 12 had the lowest reaction rates at all temperatures. The reaction rates were highest between 0oC and room temperature in the presence of catecholase and lowest at 0oC without the enzyme. Catechol oxidase (catecholase) is a polyphenol oxidase enzyme present in many plants (Aniszewski et al. 2008). It is responsible for catalysing the reaction between oxygen and hydroxylated benzenes leading to the production of quinines and water. The enzyme mediated reaction rate was the highest at physiological pH and at temperatures between zero and room temperature. This shows that the enzyme has a large range of optimal temperatures. This information can also be used to create customers segments like Dell did, in order to make decisions as to how KAR Vehicles Ltd can distribute their resources most efficiently. Furthermore, KAR Vehicles Ltd can also make use of the information gathered in K-VIS to minimize inventory turn over rates, and to maximize resource usage. Teaching Techniques Essay Essay Software Development is one of the main courses that I often teach. In order to teach this course to my students at undergraduate level, I use an eclectic approach by combining various teacher-centered and student-centered teaching techniques. In fact, due to the nature of this course, both theoretical education and practical work are required (Damian, Hadwin, Al-Ani, 2006; Dubinsky Hazzan, 2005; Gnatz, Kof, Prilmeier, Seifert, 2003). Therefore, teacher-centered techniques are not sufficient, and some student-centered techniques should be employed to fulfill the requirements of this course that is a key subject for software engineering students (Catalano Catalano, 1997). In general, my teaching strategy for this course consists of four different elements, including: a briefing session, teaching and explanation sessions, laboratory sessions, and a final project. While the first two elements are mostly based on teacher-centered techniques, the other elements absolutely focus on students’ activity and participation (Felder Silverman, 1988). Each of these components will be discussed in the following paragraphs. With this regard, the related teaching techniques used in each stage of my teaching are justified. The first stage of my teaching is based on lecturing, in which students are introduced to the subject and its significance. I start with a brief introduction about software development methods and their usage. This stage gives students a big picture of the whole course and they get the idea of the subject. I usually try to keep this stage short so that students do not get bored with my lecture. Then, I continue the course with the next stage that includes teaching and explanation sessions. For this stage, I use exposition and demonstration together with case study and Socratic (QA) techniques. I teach software development methods one-by-one in different sessions. For each method, I use Guided Discovery (talk and chalk) approach to provide students with the basic knowledge they need to understand that specific method. Then, I will try to elaborate more using real-life application examples. To engage students in my teaching sessions, I give them some case studies followed by QA, so that they get better insights and learn where and when to use that method for software development. After this, students are prepared for practical work in the upcoming stages of the course. The next two stages of the course are based on some useful student-centered techniques, namely: guided discovery, group work, and a sort of role-playing. Laboratory sessions are aimed at providing some hands on experiences and supervised activities. Hands-on experiences are essential for students to learn and practice some procedures that they need for their development projects (Gnatz et al., 2003). During these sessions, I explain a simple system to them, and ask them to think about the most suitable method for developing the required application. I try to involve each and every one of them in finding the best solution. Then, they will be asked to draw the related diagrams using the popular UML software (Larman, 2002). These supervised activities are also helpful for me to effectively identify their strengths and weaknesses so that I can plan accordingly to address their needs. The final stage of the course is a group work mixed with some role-playing. Students are divided into groups to do a software development project using what they have learned during the course. Although, they choose their group members themselves, I use my assessments from the previous stage to make sure that there is a fair balance in all groups (Damian et al., 2006). Then, I assign a project to each group, and they choose a project manager among them. Groups are given a dead-line to plan for their projects. Project managers are responsible to present the project plan of their groups and justify the method they used for development as well as their time-line and work-load distribution. This activity will simulate tasks performed by software development teams in industry. Moreover, students will learn and practice team-building and team-work skills, which are very important for their future career. Usually, after a successful delivery of their projects, students are motivated to become part-time developers to extend their skills while making revenue for themselves. Overall, the eclectic approach that I use for teaching Software Development course, help my undergraduate students to gain both knowledge and experience they require to carry out for developing different kinds of software such as web applications or mobile apps, which are highly demanded these days. Child labour is when a child under the legal age (fifteen) are made to do work that is physically and mentally harmful and which interrupts their education or social development.1 Child labour is a serious problem in many countries. Africa and Asia has the most child employment with both making up 90% of total child employment. They are everywhere but invisible, toiling as domestic servants in homes, labouring behind the walls of workshops, hidden from view in plantations. The International Labour Organization (ILO) estimates that there are more than 200 million children today which are involved in child labour. Some of these children are as young as 5. Child labourers are involved in all type of jobs agriculture, the sex industry, carpet and textile industry, brick making, construction work, quarrying and prostitution. The children that are working in a dangerous or hazardous environment usually dont wear any type of protective clothing or equipment this exposes them to toxic fumes and dangerous chemicals. Child labour should be prevented as it is taking away the childrens childhood, education and it is harmful to their health. There are many reasons why a child is working as a labourer. Most work because of poverty, lack of education and also to support themselves and their families. 1 in 7 children worldwide are working as a child labourer. In Africa, it is 1 in 3 children. 166 million of the children are under the age of 14. 74 million are risking their lives because they are working in a dangerous environment such as mining and construction there are no safety standards, no one has protective equipment, they are all working with bare hands and feet and only earning less than US $1.00 a day. 2 Child labourers that are working in match factories will suffer from phossy jaw. Phossy jaw is caused by accidently ingesting chemicals to make matches. Sometimes the chemicals used to make the matches causes the gums and jaw to become so infected that the jaw bones have to be removed. 3 Child labourers work almost every single day. They work for up to 16 hours a day for 6 days a week. This leaves them to have no time for an education which is important for a childs future. Parents are sometimes responsible for child labour. They force their kids to go to work rather than getting an education. This happens because there are many people who are graduated but still are not able to get a job. Young boys are put into work such as agricultural as soon as they are old enough to do the work. This is from the age as young as 5. Young girls also have to work at a young age but the works they do are not as heavy as the boys. Young girls do household and domestic work. These children have to keep working and are just exhausted at the end of the day which leaves them with no play time with other kids at all. The children who are going to work every day dont get to spend much time with their own family. They dont even get time to play with other children in the same age. The only other children they are with are the ones that they are working with. The children who are suffering from physical and mental job stress will face several health problems in their childhood and later in their life. Child labour is a must for many countries in Africa and Asia, without child labour, it would be even more difficult to survive. But, efforts should also be made to eliminate it. The effort made should be done in a proper manner which will not worsen the problem for those who are already affected. For the unemployed, programs should be introduced which provide an adequate salary. For the poor and the orphan centres, education should be provided for free. Efforts should also be made to change the way parents view child labour. Many poor parents consider child labour as a good though they do not realise how it endangers their childrens health and development. Parents should be made to realize that it is in their best interest to not let their child work at a very young age as this will affect their health, development and self esteem. In general, poverty is the problem that is causing child labour, eliminating poverty would solve most of the problems in Africa and Asia. The world would be a better place for everyone especially the children that are working as a child labour. Without child labour, the children would be enjoying their childhood with friends instead of working every day. There are several other steps that could be taken to prevent child labour. many children left their homes in a way to avoid the abuse that they are victims of from their parents. To prevent this bad treatment, the government could help give conferences to the parents about child labor and the consequences that it brings. In this way, we can help prevent other children running away from home and living as homeless children. Another option could be to build homes for those children that are living in the streets. They will be sent to these homes and they would not have to live outside. In this way we can help prevent children from any abuse that they can suffer in the streets. In these homes, children are not supposed to work; they can study and learn a career, and they will get a better job and a future. Child labor is a very serious problem. Fredrick Douglas stated â€Å"At this moment, I saw more clearly than ever the brutalizing effect of slavery upon both the slave and the slave owner.† It seems that slavery was advantageous to slave owner. This is far from the truth. Slavery caused slave owners to degrade into brutes after being brutalized by the evil of slavery. The validity of Fr edrick Douglas’s statement is unquestionably accurate. The most evident type of suffering slaves had to go through was the brutal physical burden placed on the shoulders of slaves. The great amount of intense and exhausting work led to many slaves â€Å"in consequence of being over-worked, and I was sick a long time.† (Bailey 356). Many slaves were force to work so much that their bodies could not take the physical toll anymore. While they were sick, they were finally allowed much needed rest, but immediately after they got better they would be put to work once again.
